Dental Implants:

Implantology is the youngest discipline in dentistry that specializes in the replacement of one or more teeth in the upper and / or lower jaw. A dental implant is a metal insert (screw) that replaces the root of the natural tooth and serves as a carrier for the prosthetic in the mouth. In a process called bone integration, implant with grows with bone, and they become stable single unit. Tooth loss is a common condition that can be associated with trauma to the teeth (outbreak), gum disease, or aging. It’s important to replace the lost tooth, regardless of the reason for the loss , in order to meet the aesthetics and the function in the mouth .In dentistry, there are a number of options for replacement of the tooth crown. From crowns, bridges to tooth restoration, but implantology has proven to be the most effective and functional as the best permanent solution to the problem. The implants are made of titanium, which is the most suitable material, because it’s biocompatible – will not cause tissue reaction ; and because of the creation of chemical and mechanical bonds with the surrounding tissue, which makes high-quality connection between living bone and with good anchorage and stability .

Prosthetic possibilities offered by Implantation:

Implant dentistry allows us to do single tooth replacement when the other teeth are completely healthy. Dental implant will replace one tooth and meet the aesthetics and function without grinding of the surrounding teeth. When you need to replace several teeth, we can do bridges on implants. The required number of implants in each jaw, depends on the range of the bridge, and the number of teeth that must be replaced. A higher number of implants allows us greater stability.

Implant supported bridge:

An implant-supported bridge is similar to a regular dental bridge, but it is supported by implants and not by natural teeth. In most cases, when an implant-supported bridge is used, one implant is placed in the jawbone for each missing tooth. Then the crowns are connected to each other to form one piece.

An implant-supported bridge is used when more than one tooth is missing. It also may be used when there is a concerned that you might put too much pressure on individual implants that are not connected to each other. For example, clenching or grinding your teeth can put a lot of pressure on individual implants. This can increase the chances that they will loosen from the bone and fail. An implant-supported bridge reduces the pressure on the individual implants in the bone, and spreads it across the entire bridge.

If the implants will be placed next to natural teeth, the natural teeth and surrounding gums must be in good health. If you don’t have enough bone to place and support the dental implants, the supporting bone can be built up using bone augmentation or grafting before the actual implant procedure begins. Your implant-supported bridge will feel more secure and comfortable than a removable partial denture, which rests on the gums. You should be able to chew normal food comfortably, and the bridge should look like the natural teeth it is replacing.

The Implant Process:

The time it takes to complete the implant process depends on many factors. When the traditional method of placing an implant is used, the time frame is about two- five months. This includes surgeries and the placement of the implant-supported bridge. However, the process can last longer if bone needs to be built up first.

What determines the success of therapy?

To a large extent dependent on the patient. Good oral hygiene is important,so the dental plaque would not be collected around the implant. A buildup of plaque causes the formation of tartar and subsequent inflammation which destroys the gums and bone around the implant itself, which may result in loss and loosen the implant.
